National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) is a Constituent Board of Quality Council of India. NABL in general provides an assessment of the quality and technical competence of testing and calibration laboratories. NABL accreditation helps the laboratory to operate at an internationally acceptable level of competence.
Laboratory accreditation is a procedure by which an authoritative body gives formal recognition of technical competence for specific tests/measurements, based on third-party attestation of a conformity assessment body (LAB- includes Testing Medical Laboratory) conveying the formal demonstration of its competence to carry out specific conformity assessment task and following international standards.
NABL accreditations not a one-time phenomenon. Once the LAB gets accredited; accreditation to a LAB shall be valid for a period of 2 years and NABL shall conduct periodical surveillance of the LAB on annual basis. In order to maintain the international standard, the LAB needs to run a third-party internal quality control on daily basis, maintain the record and analyze the data regularly. Also, The LAB needs to participate in the monthly/quarterly External Quality Control Programme along with the peer group to assess our standard.
